The Woodlands Marathon Charity Challenge | March 5, 2022 – Woodlands, TX
March 5, 2022 @ 7:00 am - 11:00 am
Friends, family, and supporters of Will Byers are again running The Woodlands Marathon 2022 on March 5 in Texas to raise awareness of and funds to cure Sanfilippo Syndrome. And the top fundraisers in the Charity Challenge earn EXTRA funds for their charities!
For the past several years, Team WILLPower has placed at the top of the Charity Challenge and is aiming to do so again in 2022. In 2020, Team WILLPower raised more than $40,000!
If you would like to run for Team WILLPower at the 2022 Charity Challenge for The Woodlands Marathon, here’s how:
- Register for the race of your choice (all distances eligible to participate!) at thewoodlandsmarathon.com
- Join the Charity Challenge’s official fundraising group for WILLPower.
- In the “Support a Charity” dropdown menu choose Cure Sanfilippo Foundation.
Need help setting up your personal information paragraph? Check out Momma WILLPower’s page for inspiration and format: https://www.thewoodlandsmarathon.com/mommawillpower. - In the “Join a Team” dropdown menus, choose TEAM WILLPower.
- Email WILLPower at WILLPowerMPS@gmail.com and let us know you are running for us. We will then provide you a fundraiser letter to personalize and send to your supporters. All funds raised will benefit the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation and help fund research for a CURE!
If you’d like any WILLPower racing apparel, reach out to WILLPowerMPS@gmail.com to order!
And if running isn’t your thing, cheering volunteers are needed for Team WILLPower’s award-winning Cheer Tent at The Woodlands Marathon 2022! And any support – donations or sharing – to help the run team is greatly appreciated.
All the funds raised support Cure Sanfilippo Foundation, which accelerates research to discover a cure for Sanfilippo Syndrome.
UPDATE
From the family’s “WILL Power: Our Family’s Journey with Sanfilippo” page on Facebook …
“We are always so thankful that “Team” WILLPower consists of so many family and friends, because they were our saving grace yesterday!
Friday evening, Daddy WILLPower and I had just finished congratulating ourselves on having everything ready early for The Woodlands Marathon race (for Momma) and the Cheer Tent (for Daddy) when we hit an unexpected snag. At 8 PM on Friday, Daddy WILLPower got the call that his work procedure, which was supposed to take place overnight Saturday night, had actually moved quicker than expected, meaning it was going to take place overnight Friday and most of the day Saturday. With Daddy WILLPower out for the count, all our carefully laid plans for race day were destroyed. The Cheer Tent was in danger of being cancelled and childcare needed to be secured.
Thankfully, we had AMAZING people step up to make sure #WILLPower would still be spread on the course and our sitter graciously took on being Little Sister’s best buddy all morning and carted her around the race course.
Unfortunately, Will needs a full-time adult dedicated to him, so with Daddy needing to work, Will had to cheer from home this year (although he missed the excitement, he didn’t mind the sleeping in, lol). He can’t wait to be back on the race course next year!
Amidst all of this, Momma WILLPower still had a race to run, but the weather played a mean trick in being the warmest and most humid morning yet this year (after a season of cold weather training)! It was a doozy and I had to slow to a run/walk once my fingers started to swell and I got lightheaded (Momma WILLPower has a history of getting overheated and passing out, so better to play it safe), but I still finished and that’s all that matters. We also had a fantastic group of runners out on the course sporting their purple!
We are trying to look at the bright side in that all of this craziness kept us from ruminating on the fact that Saturday was Will’s 7th Diagnosis Anniversary. It’s a really hard day for us but we were running on fumes, so we didn’t have any extra energy to spare on thinking about it!
So thank you all SO MUCH for every ounce of support you’ve given us this Marathon Season. We raised over $60,000 for the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation and a TON of awareness! Make sure to send us any WILLPower pictures you have and we look forward to sharing our annual slideshow with you this week!”
